The SNAP® fPL™ Test is a simple blood test that detects the level of pancreas-specific lipase to provide information about the health of your patient’s pancreas.

Proven
The SNAP fPL Test uses the same trusted technology found in the Spec fPL® Test, which was developed from the fPLI test in partnership with Drs. David A. Williams and Jörg M. Steiner at the Gastrointestinal Laboratory at Texas A&M University.

Accurate (based on the Spec fPL Test)
In a recent study presented at the ACVIM forum, the sensitivity of the Spec fPL assay for the diagnosis of pancreatitis was found to be 79% and the specificity for ruling out pancreatitis was 80%.¹

Agreement with Spec fPL® Reference Method

A study was conducted to evaluate agreement between the SNAP fPL Test’s visual results and the Spec fPL Test’s quantitative results.

Results
The SNAP fPL Test had:

92% agreement with Spec fPL normal results (≤3.5µg/L)
82% agreement with Spec fPL elevated results (>3.5µg/L)*

Resources and support materials for the SNAP® fPL™ Test

It’s easy to use the SNAP® fPL™ Test:

1.

Dispense 3 drops of sample and 4 drops of conjugate into a disposable sample tube.

2.

Gently invert the sample tube 4–5 times to mix.

3.

Pour the entire contents of the sample tube into the sample well of a SNAP® device.

4.

When colour first appears in the activation circle, press firmly to activate. You will hear a distinct “snap.”

5.

Read the test result 10 minutes from the time of activation.

Sample Information

Samples must be at room temperature (15°C–25°C) before beginning the test procedure.
Serum, either fresh or stored at 2°C–8°C for up to one week, can be used.
For longer storage, serum can be frozen (-20°C or colder) and then re-centrifuged before use.
Haemolysed, icteric or lipaemic samples will not affect results.

Interpreting Results

Interpreting SNAP cPL test results

SNAP cPL Normal

Normal Level
If the colour intensity of the sample spot is lighter than the colour intensity of the reference spot, fPL levels are normal.

Note: It is possible for no colour to develop on the sample spot.

Abnormal Level
If the colour intensity of the sample spot is equal to or darker than the colour intensity of the reference spot, fPL levels are abnormal.

Invalid Results

Background—If the sample is allowed to flow past the activation circle, background colour may result. Some background colour is normal. However, if coloured background obscures test result, repeat the test.
No Colour Development—If reference spot does not develop colour, repeat the test.
